Over 500 generous supporters attended the Van Gogh inspired, “Starry, Starry Night” Covenant House Texas Annual Spring Gala on Saturday, March 24th at the Hilton Americas Houston, which is celebrating its 35th Anniversary. It proved to be a magical evening of dinner and dancing that generated over $800,000 in gross proceeds for the homeless youth at Covenant House Texas (CHT).
The Covenant House Texas Guild hosts the event each year. This year’s wonderful event was spearheaded by gala chair Mary Eads and her family members. Guests included Carolyn Faulk, Julie and Jay Rogers, Kim and Karen El-Tawil, Andy and Cheri Fossler, Grace Kim, Keith and Oana Maxwell, Brian and Karen Schmitt, Alan and Michelle Smith, and Wynne and Aimee Snoots.
The evening was emceed by Mia Gradney, KHOU-TV, Channel 11. The highlight of the evening’s festivities was the touching speech by Covenant House Texas resident, Laura, who shared how CHT is helping her gain her independence, bringing the crowd to a standing ovation. Hank Hamilton received our Spirit Award and his company TGS received our Community Partner Award with CEO Kristian Johansen accepting for over 20 years of unwavering support of Covenant House Texas.
Kevin Ryan, Covenant House International President, and Kurt Nondorf, CHT Board Chair, led the audience in a non-competitive live auction as guests opened their hearts, raising $180,000 in “Scholarships of Hope” to support program needs such as food, shelter, medical care, counseling, and educational/ vocational training.
Throughout the evening, guests bid on an array of items during the live and silent auctions including Astros tickets and a trip to Napa to become a winemaker for the day.
