On Friday, April 5, Young Professionals from across Houston slept outside to raise awareness and funds for homeless youth and Covenant House Texas(CHT). Currently, they have raised over $40,000.
The Sleepers were excited to be part of such an amazing event which started with a fun social hour with food provided by Shake Shack and Hilton – Houston Plaza/Medical Center and a fun dessert truck. They were able to spend time and get to know some of the youth impacted by CHT. Later in the evening, participants went out on Street Outreach to hand out food to the homeless. After returning, the Sleepers listened to testimonials from the youth. A highlight of the evening was a poetry reading from CHT resident, Robert. Later, the sleepers and youth played “get to know you” bingo and UNO. Then it was lights out.
The next morning the sleepers reflected on what it means to be homeless after spending a night outside. “I am thankful for my bed and for always having people in my corner. Last night, I met some amazing young people. Despite having to escape rough family lives, they’re young leaders now safe thanks to Covenant House Texas,” said participant Renae Cochran.
