The CHT Associate Board of Young Professionals hosted the Covenant House Texas Panel on Racial Injustice on Friday, July 31st. The panel focused on issues surrounding inequality, police accountability, and community race relations. Panel guests included Constable Alan Rosen, Attorney Audia Jones and was moderated by outgoing Young Professional President, Alvin Adjei, with a welcome by new incoming President, James Mao. Covenant House staff, TylyYnn Preston and Chanin Ollison, as well as CHT youth, Christian and Mark also participated on the panel, which gave a unique perspective.
“Regarding bridging the gap between police and community, we are trying our best to do this, and it will be better for the community to take initiative. What we want is peace and trust between the police and to show that we aren’t that bad. If one party will take initiative it will possibly make the other party do the same,” says CHT youth, Christian.
The virtual event streamed live on the CHT Facebook page. You can watch the replay of the panel below.
We are committed absolutely to keeping our doors open to young people who turn to us for help, who have no one else to care for them in this time of crisis. They can’t stay home because of COVID-19 if they don’t have a home. Covenant House Texas is that home, 24/7.
