Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church

Rev. William Lawson and his wife, the late Audrey Lawson, served as founding pastor and first lady of the historic Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church.

As legendary civil rights and community activists, they strived to respond to the city’s challenges with social services and championed the church’s ministries for youth and children.

We are thankful for the Lawsons and Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church for all of their support of Covenant House Texas youth. The church has made many generous gifts in support of our residents’ needs. In addition, they support our youth spiritually by offering a weekly Bible study on our campus. We are all blessed to continue to share in the legacy of love, leadership and compassion of the Lawsons.
